TOT ALTS ATOR LEGALISED. After a great fight by the stalwarts it is pleasing to record that the totalizator is now legal in South Australia at trotting meetings both in the city and country. In the city this form of betting will be allowed at 35 meetings, and at 60 country meetings during the year. There was an effort in certain quarters to take away the control of the sport from the Trotting League, but this body, it is good to know, still remains in power, says the “ Australian Trotting Record.” The future of the sport in South Australia is considerably brighter, as there is no doubt that the tote method of betting, which was so long denied, is very popular. A better demand for horses will-now set in.
