PROTEST TO MINISTER.

Chambers of Commerce Decision. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, This Day. The protest made recently in the Legislative Council against extraneous legislation being included in the Finance Bills has been supported by a letter written to the Finance Minister, stated the secretary of the Associated Chambers of Commerce, reporting to the executive yesterday. A letter in reply from the Minister was read, in which he said that, as far as practicable, amendments of the Acts were embodied in separate amendments of the Acts, and it was only in exceptional circumstances that the Finance Bill was used for the purpose. The attention of the meeting was then drawn to the fact that the Finance Act No. 3 of last session contained provisions affecting a number of statutes. The chairman remarked that the Act was an extraordinarv conglomeration. He said that the Finance Bills had overridden many principles of Common Law, and had set at naught many provisions of general statute law. It was decided to make a renewed protest to the Minister.
