CATHOLIC CONCERT.
Display Given by School
Children.
Oyer three hundred children from the Christchurch Catholic; boys’ and girls’ schools presented a very successful monster concert in the Caledonian Hall last evening. Youthful talent and enthusiasm and careful training well meiited the applause which greeted item. The hall was packed, and the funds of the schools should receive considerable assistance from the venture. L’ nd er the capable direction of Mr P. O Connell, assisted by the Marist Brothers and other supporters, a long programme was carried through expeditiously. The performers were drawn from all the schools in the Christchurch district, the only adults’ numbers being ?? nC T? s Miss Betty Carnochan and J- Geddes, and banjo selections by Bioy s Band. The programme was as follows: Choruses, “ Admiral’s Broom ” and "Fisher Lads,” Marist boys; character song, “ Piccaninnies," Judith Youth and tT- Gregory; Russian fancy song, .. £? ardas .’,’ Phyllis Gale; action song, The Hunters,” Addington pupils; humorous, “ Mary s Little Chicken,” Maureen Moroney (Beckenham) ; chorus, “ Sweet Sunshine,” St Josep’s junior pupils; vocal solo, “A Message From Home,’ Moran Brownie; poi song and dance, Maori medley, Montessori pupils; tap dance duo, Betty Carnochan and Percy Geddes; choruses, “ Shenandoah ” and “Home, Sweet Home,” Marist boys; banjo selection, members of Bloys Band; ribbon dance, St Joseph’s girls; action song, “ Beautiful Flowers,” Beckenham pupils: humorous. “A Bird in the Hand,” Myrtle Hawke, 'Winifred Fallon and Dawn MGonagle; “Coach and Four” (soloist, Cahill Gallagher). High School junior pupils; band selection, members of Bloy’s band: action song, “Grace Darling,” Addington senior pupils; vocal solo, “Who is the Queen?”, Clare Kortegast: fancy dance, Margaret Brand (Woolston); “What Are the Wild Waves Saying?”, secondary school girls; humorous, “The Aspiring Dishwasher,” Frances O’Gorman; partsong, "Mermaid’s Song,” St Joseph’s senior pupils; 1935 waltz, Betty Carnochan and Percy Geddes; variety item, “ Beautiful Rainbow,’ High School juniors; comedy, “Catherine Parr and Henry VIII.,” secondary school girls; “Sailor’s Lullaby,” “But It Is So” and “ God Defend New Zealand,” Marist boys.
