DOUBLE PROGRAMME
" Freedom of the Seas ” and “20 Million Sweethearts.”
“ Strike Me Lucky ” and “ Bulldog Drummond Strikes Back ” will be shown finally to-night at the Theatre Royal. Madame Elsa Stralia appears on the stage and sings a bracket of popular songs. Freedom of the Seas.” a sparkling British comedy, will head the attractive double-feature programme at the Theatre Royal to-morrow. “ Twenty Million Sweethearts,” the fine musical film which has been screened with conspicuous success at the Plaza during the past week, will be shown in support. With the British Navy as an interesting setting, a refreshing story is told in “ Freedom of the Seas.” Since the production of “ Jack Ahoy,” “ The Midshipmaid ” and “ The Middle W atch,” there has been an insistent demand for this type of picture. The stern solemnity of the huge warships acts as a foil to the innumerable gaieties which are indulged in on board. There is also a good opportunity for some fine scenes of Britain’s naval strength. As with all films of the sea, there is an invigorating air about “ Freedom of the Seas,” and for audiences who appreciate a brisklymoving story with plenty of wholesome humour, this picture should have a strong appeal. The most hilarious incidents occur when a young sublieutenant finds himself on board an enemy ship with the girl he loves and a prospective father-in-law who hates him. The leading parts are taken by Clifford Mollison and Wendy Barrie. “ Twenty Million Sweethearts ” is an amusing comedy replete with many catchy tunes and some good songs. Dick Powell and Ginger Rogers play the leading roles. The picture paints in an exciting manner the back-of-the-scenes life of radio entertainers, their struggles and their successes, their heartaches and their romances. It is filled not only with exciting drama, lively comedy and colourful romance, but with some of the catchiest musical numbers that have ever been heard on the screen or over the radio. Box plans are at the D.I.C.
