Gatherings Held in Town and Suburbs. PARTY GIVEN FOR BRIDE-ELECT Misses Thelma Farrant and Ivy Brown were joint hostesses at a variety gift party held recently in the Selwyn Street Kindergarten Hall in honour of Eileen Sloan, whose marriage to Mr R. X. Thorne, of Ashhurst, will take place shortly. An enjoyable time was spent in games, competitions and dancing, the winners of the competitions being Misses Alice Lowther, Valeria Streeter.. Ena Cross, Thelma Rathgen and Mavis Green. Among those present were: Mesdames M. Sloan, E. Strange, N. Sloan, G. Moultrie and H. Glonday, Misses E. Sloan V. Barsham, R. Munroe, I. Elstob, M Sloan, L. Jones, E. Cross, T. Rathgen O. Cocks, B. Obery, L. Stewart, A. Lowtner, H. Holmes, H. Johnstone. E. J. Sloan, R. Obery, K. Holmes, T. Farrant, E. Moultrie, M. Sloan, J. Brown B Brady and AI. Green. Gift Party at Spreydon. On Tuesday evening a variety gift party was given by Mr and Mrs G. \V. Sim at their home in Tainui Street, Spreydon, in honour of a popular bride-to-be, Miss Marjory Miller. Games and competitions were much enjoyed, and the guest of the evening received many useful gifts for her new home. Among those present were: Rev J Lawson Robinson and Mrs Robinson, Mr and Mrs W. St rath dee, Mr and Mrs F. H. Steel, jUn.. Mr and Mrs J. M’Lean; Mesdames A. Grant, A. Wilson, J. Dalziell. and Misses Marjory Miller, Eveline Sinclair, Mary Miller, Peggy Sim. Eileen Collett. Jean Barnes, Lois Austin; Messrs James Wilson, Andrew Mackic and R. Sim. Social Evening. The Collingwood Social Club held its fortnightly social at the residence of Mrs C. Thompson. Keppel Street, New Brighton, recently. The organising committee consisted of Mesdames C. Thompson and A. E. Cockle, Miss H. Cockle Messrs B. Rice and C. Kerr. Competitions were won by Mesdames B. Crew and A. Weir and Messrs C. Kerr and R. Campbell. Among those present were: Mesdames C. Thompson. S. Adams, F. Webley, B. Crew, A. Weir and A. E. Cockle; Misses May Rice. Sybil Scott and JJ.
