RESEARCH COUNCIL.
Members Review Work at Lincoln. The whole of the research work carj ried out at Lincoln Agricultural College was reviewed yesterday by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research. To-day, the members of the council spent an hour at the Wheat Research Institute, and then continued their deliberations at Canterbury College. The meeting will conclude tonight. Some time ago the council held a meeting at the Massey Agricultural College and the direct contact with the investigators there who are working on grants or subsidies from the Government led to the decision to meet at Lincoln. Yesterday each research worker at the college interviewed the council and gave a summary of his work. Plans for the future were discussed and the financial requirements of each section were considered and will be recommended to the Government. The agenda paper for to-day’s meeting contained a number of interesting subjects ranging from dairying and wheat breeding to meteorological work in Samoa. The council meets in camera, but the chairman’s report will be made available for publication. The chairman (Mr G. Shirtcliffe) presided over yesterday’s meeting and there were also present Dr 11. G. Denham (Canterbury College), Professor T. Rigg (Cawthron Institute), Professor Malcolm (Otago University). Mr G. Fascoe (Unemployment Board), Mr A. M. Seaman (Auckland). Mr H. Vickerman (Wellington). Mr A. 11. Cockayne (Department of Agriculture) and Dr E. Marsden (Director of the Department). __________________ __
