TALK OF WAR.
Enormously Exaggerated, Says Dr Condliffe. The talk of the fear of another war in the near future i« enormously exaggerated, according to Dr J. B. Condliffe, a member of the Economic Intelligence Service of the League of Nations, in his address last night. He outlined means by which war might possibly be prevented for several generations. Dr Condliffe said that the talk was exaggerated, if for no other reason than that so many had gone through the Great War that they would not allow their political leaders to embark on another. He believed with the American economist that one great lesson of the depression was that the
world could not afford another big Soon there would arise another generation which would not have experienced the horrors of such a struggle as that from 1914 to 1918. nor its aftermath of economic depression. The educational work in the Christchurch schools bv the League of Nations Union was worthy of the support of every citizen. If there were to be another war in the lifetime of the present generation it would be decided by a new generation of young people, whose direction of thought would be determined largely by the j atmosphere in which they had been I educated.
