IRISH CITIZENSHIP.
Position of Loyalists in Free State. United Press Assn.—Bv Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received December 4. 2.20 p.m.) LONDON, December 3. In the House of Commons Mr J. IT. Thomas, in reply to Sir Percy Hurd, reiterated that nobody now a British subject would be deprived of such citizenship by the Irish Free .State Citizenship Bill. Sir Percy Hurd: Will steps be taken to enable loyalists to move to parts of the Empire where the)' can live in peace as British subjects? Mr Thomas: I hope it won’t be necessary to take such steps. I defined, on the best authoritative legal advice, what the position of these people is and that is the Government’s view. Sir William Davison: Is it proposed to lodge a serious protest with the Free State against a direct breach of the treaty and its irrevocable safeguards? Mr Thomas: Long before the present question we informed the Free State Government of our views.
