Ambition Satisfied.

After he had finished play at Otatara, Gene Sarazen. the celebrated American professional golfer, drove out to Oreti Beach, states an Invercargill telegram. There he went down to the water’s edge, teed a ball and hit one of his best drives in the direction of the South Pole. Having come so far south, he explained, he was determined to go on till the sea stopped him, and there hit a drive so that he could claim to have driven a ball further south than any other American professional. Having satisfied his ambition in this respect Sarazen re-entered his car and left on the return journey to Dunedin. Samoan Delicacies. Palolo (an edible sea slug that appears on the beach only twice a year, on specific dates) ran true to form, and there was great rejoicing on October 29 when a vast quantity of this succulent food appeared on the water, and the harvest was great, reports the “ Samoa Herald.” Huge baskets of it were hawked around Apia, and all so inclined had their fill. Some beautiful samples of pineapples are on the market just now. and Samoa may well be proud of its product.
