STREET DAYS.

Proposal to Avoid Fridays Considered. The petition signed by principals of business firms protesting against the number of street collections conducted in the city, which was referred to the By-laws Committee by the City Council a month ago, has been placed in the hands of the sub committee which deals with the applications for consideration when allotting days for next year. The committee reported to the meeting of the council last evening that a reply had been sent to the firm whose name appeared first on one of the pages of the petition, stating that the committee sympathised with the difficulties experienced by shopkeepers. The committee pointed out that the number of collections had been considerably reduced and that only ten had been held during the current year, with one more to be taken up on December 21 by the Rotary Club to provide “Christmas cheer.” The question of restricting the collections to a day other than Friday would also be further considered. During the current year, several collections were taken up on days other than a Friday. The report was adopted.
