GOOD PROSPECTS.

Conditions Favourable for Week-end Angling. SELWYN FULL OF FISH. There seems every prospect that anglers will enjoy good fishing this week-end. The Selwyn is full of fish, ; anti it is suggested that an excursion upstream would repay the fisherman. J Lake Ellesmere is providing good i sport in the early morning or the even- ! ing, when fish are taking freely on bully or lure. There are plenty of fish in the Waimakariri, but they are rather difficult to hook. Bully or live bait are being used with success. Dry-fly anglers might well try the upper reaches, where the stream is divided. Competent anglers are of the opinion that there must be fish in the upper reaches. Fine Salmon Taken. Poor, under-sized fish are being taken from Lake Lyndon, and catches tire disappointing so far. In Lake Coleridge fine bags of salmon are being secured, averaging round about two to four pounds. The early morning is the most suitable time for fishing, but the evening is also propitious. From 8 a.m. to midday nothing will be taken. A small spoon is being used by those catching fish. There are plenty of small fish in the Main Drain, and some fair catches have been taken in the Cam. So far, the Ashley has been disappointing. The fish taken have been small and few and far between. From reports it appears that those who wish to secure large bags will be well advised to concentrate on the Selwyn this week-end.
