THE FLOWER GARDEN. Sow Zinnias, Celosias, Salvias. Pick off the spent blooms of Roses daily. Plant Asters, Dahlias and Cosmos. Sow Portulaccas, Amaranth us, Balsams. Prepare the ground for Dahlias and put in the central stake. Chrysanthemums can be planted. Sow Sweet Williams, Canterbury Bells and Hollyhocks, Do any pruning necessary to Deutzias, Lilacs and other earlyflowering shrubs. Remove spent flowers and seed pods of Rhododendrons and Azaleas. Any pruning or shaping required by Rhododendrons should be done now. If thrips or red spider is present spray with a white oil spray. Auricula, Polyanthus, Violas, Pansy and Carnations tor flowering next spring can be sown. Keep the surface soil well stirred. It assists to conserve moisture. THE GREENHOUSE. Sow Primula sinensis and P. malacoides. Sow Cinerarias, also a small sowing of Schizanthus for autumn bloom* Attend carefully to watering, shading, ventilation and fumigation. Pelargoniums for winter blooming should be potted. Begonias must be potted as required. THE VEGETABLE GARDEN. Sow Peas. Stake those that require it. Sowings of Dwarf Beans can be made. Make a small sowing of Sweet Corn. Runner Beans can be sown. Sow Cucumbers, Melons, Pumpkins. Plantings of Brussels Sprouts can be made. Fl* n t Tomatoes. Stake and disbud those that are ready. Celery should be transplanted before plants become drawn. Prepare Celery trenches. Use them for Lettuce and Spinach till required. TTlin out root crops as soon as seedlings are large enough to handle. Plant Caoe Gooseberries. Strong growing Vegetable Marrows should have the leading shoots pinched. Earth up Potatoes and young growing Cabbage. If black aphis show on Broad Beans, cut off the tops and burn. THE FRUIT GARDEN. Spray Apples and Pears for codlin moth and bronze beetle. Arsenate of lead is the best spray for codlin moth, bronze beetle and any grubs or caterpillars. Spray with lim*-*uiphur or other form of sulphur for brown rot. Use nicotine or pyrethrum solution for aphis or green or black fly.
