BOWLING HISTORY.

Growth and Progress of Sumner Club. ACTIVITIES REVIEWED. The history of the formation of the Sumner Bowling Club and its growth during th(& twenty-one years of its existence was traced by the president (Mr T. Newburgh) at the anniversary celebrations held in the Sumner Masonic Hall last evening. Mr Newburgh said that on February 26, 1912, a meeting was held to consider the advisability of forming a bowling club. Mr H. J. Marriner, as Mayor, presided, and there were present:—Messrs E. G. Rawnsley, C. W. C. Smithson, T. B. Boulton, H. Buttle, E. G. Wood, Burns, H. W. Heslop, Murley Johnson and Misses Wood and Johnston, members of the St Albans Club. Mr Smithson was appointed secretary and Mr Massey was asked to repcrrt as to the suitability of the land offered. On June b Mr Boulton reported that Mr George J l l“n? phreys had offered part of the Richmond Hill for £555, upon reasonable terms, and had made a donation of £lO5.
