CRICKET.
Batting Sides Will Need Large Scores. FIRST GRADE POSITION. The fourth series of first grade cricket matches will be completed to-morrow afternoon, and after last week’s heavy scoring the ingoing sides will have their work cut out. After the spell of hot weather, however, the wickets and outfields should play fast and true, and the batsmen should have every opportunity. The position of the games is: St Albans 265. Lancaster Park 31 for no wickets (Hagley No. -). Riccarton 347 for three, declared, East Chriscthurch 48 for one wicket (Lancaster Park). Sydenham, all out, 342, West Christchurch yet to bat (Sydenham Park). Old Collegians, 271 for six wickets. Old Boys yet to bat (Hagley No. 2). Lancaster Park have the least solid task, and with 31 as a start from last week should be able to overtake their opponents, St Albans. However, on a fast wicket the St Albans slow' bowlers, who are fairly good on their day. should make the run-getting interesting, and if well backed up by the field, might wdn the game for their side. Old Collegians did not do their scoring quickly enough against Old Boys, but still their position is a strong one. Old Boys have not an evenly strong batting side, but the Collegians have not a particularly dangerous attack, and might strike trouble in getting out the first batsmen, Page, Fisher. Hadlee and M’Ewen. With their big score and perhaps the best bowling side in the competition, Riccarton should make things hard for East Christchurch, who have already lost a good wicket. West Christchurch should have an interesting time chasing the big Sydenham score. There is a lack of variety, However, in the Sydenham attack, and if some of the West batsmen get going at top form they might just turn defeat into a win. Draw for Next Round of Suburban Games.
