BOWLERS’ SOCIAL.

Twenty-first Anniversary Celebrated. In order to observe the twenty-first anniversary of the Sumner Bowling Club a well-attended social evening •was held last night in the Sumner Masonic Hall. Members and their wives, together with many ex-members and their friends, were welcomed by the president (Mr T. Newburgh). The earlier part of the evening was spent in playing bridge and five hundred. The bridge was directed by Mr C. N. Forrest and Mr J. A. Clarke was in charge of the five hundred. The special anniversary cake, depicting two bowlers enjoying themselves under obviously favourable conditions, was much admired. The names of the original executive elected on the establishment of the club in 1913 were inscribed on one side of the cake and the names of the present executive on the other. The first officers of the club -were: Patron, Mr George Humphreys; president, Mr E. G. Rawnsley; vice-presi-dents, Messrs J. Powrie, R. Hepworth, T. B. Boulton, H. J. Marriner and Scott; secretary, Mr 11. W. Heslop; treasurer, Mr G. W. C. Smithson; auditor, Mr F. Pratt; committee, Messrs Bassett, Benson, Johnson, Wright, Buttle, Burns and Rowe. Those present were:—Mr and Mrs Thos. Newburgh, Mr and Mrs W. H. Nicholson, Mr and Mrs G. W. C. Smithson, Mr and Mrs E. A. Johnson, Mr and Mrs H. L. Wiggins, Mr and Mrs H. Y. Widdowson, Mr and Mrs H.
