PRICE OF WHEAT.
Argentina’s Policy. (Received November 30. 10.15 a.m.) BUENOS AIRES, November 29. The Ministry of Agriculture to-day issued a decree r’e-establi«hing for the new crop year the basic price of grain originally established on November 29, 1933. when the Government Initiated its grain buying programme, the price of wheat being set at 5.175 pesos per cwt —equivalent to 168 cents per 2201 b. The decree authorised the Grain Control Board to purchase on the Government’s account when necessary to maintain prices. MEAT TRADE. Lamb killing in the Auckland province this season is later than in recent years, and it will be about a fortnight before the flush of the season is reached, states the ” New Zealand Heraltf.” However. there has been a substantial increase this year in the killing of porkers and baconers. particularly porkers. The schedule of prices on hooks at freezing works is unchanged this week, the following; rates being quoted:— lambs—36lb and under. 7d per lb; 371 b to 421 b, 6Jd; over 421 b. fid; seconds, 6icf. Exporters of frozen mutton are very cheerful about the season’s prospects, as it is considered that the position in Britain is very promising, and that satisfactory prices are likely ’to rule throughout the season. Most of the local freezing work are not due to commence operations until about a week before Christmas. In Otago, warm weather and occasional showers have brought stock on well. The New Zealand Co-operative Pig Marketing Association, Ltd., will, during the c oming week, make its -usual Interim bonus payment to suppliers on pigs received from June 1 to October 31. The amount to be distributed, including th« shareholders’ bonus on the qualified supply for the year ending May 31 last, is approximately £6OOO. For the period. the company has handled nearly 20.000 pigs, which is considerably more than twice the number handled for the corresponding period last year, and represents 35 per cent of the total "igs killed for export during the period. The bonus to he paid on nigs supplied to October 31 will be at the following ! rates:-—Porkers: To 801 b. lid per lb; 81 -1001 b. Id per lh: 101-1201 b. 3d per lb.
