THE WOOL TRADE.

Factors Tend to Improve Price Level. NOTICEABLE ACTIVITY. United Press Assn. —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, November 29. The Imperial Economic Committee’s “ Wool Intelligence ” says that the activity of the wool and textile industry in Great Britain and France in recent weeks has perceptibly improved and that prospects *have increased for wool consumption from the abnormally low level of September and October reported from the United States. Moreover, stock statistics of the consuming countries indicate a low level which should lead to heavier purchases, particularly in view of the. increased seasonal demand for wool products. Taken in conjunction with the current level of prices, these factors are leading to a satisfactory absorption of offerings at the present auctions, and the firmness of dealings at a slightly lower basis of values may well lead to a somewhat improved level before the end of the series. Recent Rates Held at London. (Rereived November 30, 12.45 p.m.) LONDON. November 29. At the wool sales 76G5 bales were offered, including 1761 New Zealand. A total of 6814 Australian and New Zealand bales were sold. The offering included a good selection of greasy merinos and cross-breds. There was keen Home and Continental competition and full recent rates were maintained. New Zealand lots sold as follows: Greasy cross-bred, Arakihi (top price 9ld), average 8d; scoured quarter-bred D/N 21d. Brisbane Prices Favour Sellers. (Received November 30, 11.45 a.m.) BRISBANE, This Day. The Wool sales closed with a very animated market, and compared with earlier sales the market was very firm, any change being in sellers’ favour. Greasy wool sold to 16Id and scoured to 25*d.

It was originally intended that Otago and < nnterbury es:g export cnmniltteps should arrange with local merchants to send a total of ROO crates by the Canad,an Victor to Halifax to be railed ro Montreal for sale during the early part of January. The parties concerned were unable to make the arrangements, hoped for, and so space on the vessel has eeo ca n cel led. It is regrettable that the shipment did not eventuate as planned, as advice received from Canada is to the effect that a splendid market for eggs is available at present. The proposal to experiment with a small shipment of eggs to Canada has not been abandoned, for already negotiations have been instituted for two local firms to supply a complete shipment in twelve months’ time.
