CAMPING GROUNDS.
Appeal to Motorists for Care. An appeal to motorists and all others who use camping and picnicking grounds to play the game in the treatment of the various resorts is made in the latest message from the Canterbury Automobile Association. “ From now until the end of the summer the various camping and picnicking places will be thronged bypeople using all forms of transport. Unfortunately among those who use such places are many people who are thoughtless and ungrateful enough to abuse the privileges provided for them,” states the message. “ Though the authorities controlling camping and picnicking grounds erect notices giving explicit instructions regarding the lighting of fires and the disposal of rubbish, some visitors ignore the instructions and make conditions unpleasant for themselves and others. The practice of tidiness is most essential, and children and adults should make every effort to preserve unspoiled the beauty of the places they visit. The native bush, birds and flowers should be protected to the fullest extent and the greatest care should be exercised in making fireplaces where proper facilities are not provided. “ A carelessly made fireplace may be the cause of destroying acres of bush or pasture land in addition to fencing and stock. All fires should be completely extinguished so that there is no chance of a wind scattering sparks among dried grass. All rubbish should be carefully buried so that no offence may be caused tc others. A good rule is to leave your camping and picnicking ground in the tidy state that y-ou expect to find it.”
