OBITUARY.
Mr J. Shaw Was WellKnown in Christchurch. Mr J. Shaw, who died recently, was well known in Christchurch. lie was a native of Nelson, Lancashire, England. and was forty-eight years of age. Coming to Christchurch about five years ago, Mr Shaw soon became known for his pleasing tenor voice and also as a teacher of singing. Up to a year ago Mr Shaw was choirmaster at Trinity Congregational Church. On the retirement a year ago of Mr Alfred Worsley as conductor of the Canterbury Commercial Travellers’ and Warehousemen’s Association’s concert party, Mr Shaw succeeded him, and his services in that position were greatly appreciated. lie was a member of the male quartet, known as the “ Harmony Four,” which, in addition to appearances on the concert platform, frequently gave selections from the broadcasting stations. Mr Shaw took a part in the production last 3-ear of the comic opera ” Les Cloches de Corneville.” lie is survived by a widow’ and one son.
