NEW STREET LAMPS.

Trial at Busy City Intersections.

A trial is being given by the Christchurch City Council to eight of the new gaseous electric lamps with the object of ascertaining if they are of assistance to motor traffic at night. Four of the lamps are being erected at the Bank of New Zealand corner and four at Cook and Ross’s corner. The lamps are of 1600 candle-power each, compared with the 250 candlepower generally used on bridges and 1000 candle-power of lamps at the Bank of New Zealand corner and in Cathedal Square.
