HURUNUI SEAT.
Labour Party Candidate Recommended. The Labour Representation Committee, at its meeting last night, decided to forward to the head office the recommendation of the Rangiora branch of the Labour Party that the Hurunui seat be contested at the next Parliamentary ejections, and that Dr F. Birkenshaw be the candidate. The question whether the seat is to be contested, and whether Dr Birkenshaw is to be the candidate, is for the Central Executive to decide. The position of delegates to the committee who are members of associations affiliated to the United Burgesses’ Association was also discussed. It was pointed out that the United Burgesses’ Association proposed taking political action. It was ruled that no member ot the Labour Party could be a member of any organisation which took political action, as it then became a political party.
