HORNBY SCHOOL.
The monthly meeting of the Hornby School Committee was held at the school on Monday, Mr F. A. M’Teigue presiding. Tire head master’s report stated that the roll number was 285, and the average attendance for the month 26G. As the proficiency examination for Hornby and other schools would be held at Hornbv on November 20 it was decided to declare a holiday for those pupils not sitting 1 for the examination. The staff offered to arrange a school concert at. the end of the year, and it was left in their hands to fix a suitable date. A discussion took Place regarding the holding of a school picnic, and it was decided to hold an excursion io Stewart’s Gully on December S. it was left in the hands of the secretary to arrange for the grounds and the train and for the supply of soft drink*. It was decided to supply the children with free fruit and a limited supply of sweets. The secretary reported that. several special prizes had been donated, and it was decided that the committee give a dux m'edal. two championship medals, a. progress prize for each standard, and a book to each pupil in the primer classes. As the result of an egg drive the cliilden handed in 18s, and' it was decided that the money be exm-nded on procuring sports gear for the school. Donation* from residents amounted to €3. It was reported that the school swimming baths had been cleaned and given a coat of whitewash. The baths had been filled and were open for swimming.
