Galsworthy’s Last Novel Brought to Screen. “Qnc heads the outstanding isifogramme at the Tivoli Theatre this week. Fine acting by an almost entirely English cast, a Galsworthy story, and capable direction by Tames Whale, ensure good entertainment The screen play of the Nobel Prize winner’s last novel comes from the pen of R. C. Sherriff (famed as the author of “Journey's End”), whose remarkable sense of dramatic values makes him especially suited for the task of adapting books for the screen. Although the picture was filmed in Hollywood, the settings succeed remarkably well in simulating the English atmosphere. This success is all the more remarkable when the wide variety of the scenes is considered. Especially noteworthy are the sets representing “Melton Mews,” the English law courts, and a rural village with its ancient inn and parish church. Diana Wynyard. as the unhappy heroine, gives her consistently sincere, restrained performance, but the honours are stolen from her by Mrs Patrick Campbell, who is delightfully natural and humorous. The “shorts” are first-class.
