WORK FOR GIRLS.
Vocational Guidance Offered. A meeting of the Girls’ Employment Committee was held > r esterday, those present being: Mesdames C. Young, B. H. Gilmour, B. Wisely, Misses E. Higgins, C. Robinson, I. Jamieson, E. Dalzieil, N. Lome, F. L. Cooper, Mr G. MKeys. It was reported that the work was now on a good progressive basis, and tangible results were apparent. Miss C. Robinson had been released from the Technical College for two afternoons weekly as vocational guidance officer, and Miss Nan Corne has been appointed organising secretary and Miss Browning shorthand ty piste. Great difficulty had been experienced in filling domestic positions, and girls in need of this class of work should apply to Miss Corne at the rooms of the Y.W.C.A. Business firms were taking a kindly interest ,and the Rotary Club had forwarded a donation of two guineas. As far as was known, the releasing of Miss Robinson specially for vocational guidance work for girls was the first definite step of its kind in New Zealand. The committee was receiving every support from the Boys’ Employment Committee, whose work had been outstandingly successful. All young girls in need of vocational guidance should interview Miss Corne at the Y.W.C.A. or ring her on telephone 33-523.
