Bank of N.Z. Active. WORKSOPS DOWN. MARKET SHOWS CONSIDERABLE LIVELINESS. Considering the few calls made this week, business on the Christchurch Stock Exchange has been very well maintained, and sales have been representative and comparatively numerous. Commercial Bank of Australia remained unaltered with sellers and business at 16s. buyers at 15s lid. A late sale of Bank of New South Wales on 7th instant was reported at £32, and there were further sellers at that price to-day, buyers at £3l Us 6d. A late sale of Bank cf New Zealand on 7th instant was reported at 495, and dealings to-day were at that price, market closing 4Ss lid buyers, 49s sellers. New Zealand Refrigerating (10s paid) remained unaltered at 9s lOd, market closing Id on either side. Westport Coals, cum dividend of 6d per share, had improved demand at 19s 2d. but sellers were reticent. Buyers of Tooths Brewery shares raised their bids to 51s 7d, sellers at 525. Amalgamated Wireless, contributing, were firmer on buyers’ offers 335. Kauri Timbers were firmer with buyers and business at 19s 6d, sellers at 19s 9d. Bell Hoopers were firm with buyers and dealings at 3d. sellers at 33d. A late sale of Gillespie’s Beach on 7th instant was reported at Is 9d, and business to-day was Is 83d, market closing Is 7d buyers. Is 9d sellers. Goldfields Dredging were a shade easier with sellers and business at lid, buyers at 103 d. King Solomons were firmer on buyers’ oifers 3s Sd. (Special to the “Star.”) (Special to the “Star.”) Though a moderate turnoved is still being recorded on the Exchange, business is scarcely as brisk as last week. At this morning's call local scrip was in especially good demand, and Gas shares, which touched a new high level at the last call yesterdav with a sale at 27s 3d, led off with fresh buyers at that figure, sellers asking 27s 6d. The contributing issue gained another Id with a sale at 19s lOd, after which the market stood between 19s 8d and 20s. The Farmers’ Trading were firm and after fresh business at 7s 3d in the ordinaries, there were buyers at 7s 2d, and also at 18s for “A ” preferences and 14s for “ B’s”, with no one offering to sell. Bycrofts were quoted between 52s and 54s for £1 shares: and the 10s scrip of Wilson’s Cement which now carries a higher dividend, was wanted at 33s 6d with no sellers. Banks and insurances showed little change but holders of Reserves moved limits up to £6 13s. In Government stocks 3£ p.c. were again unquoted. The Noon Call. A fair list of salts was recorded at the noon call. In the banking section a parcel of Australasias was placed on Jjtter at £ll 12s 6d. South British Insurance improved with a market between 90s and 925. Buyers for Farmers’ Trading ordinary shares dropped offers to 7s.
