“EXTREMELY LUCKY.”
Arrested Man Had £IOO on Him.
Arrested outside the Racecourse Hotel, Riccarton, last night, a southern visitor to Christchurch, aged seventytwo years, was found to have more than £IOO in notes in his pockets. A first offender for drunkenness, he was fined 20s and costs by Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M.. in the Magistrate’s Court this morning. Senior-Sergeant Fox said that the old man had been noticed outside the hotel by two detectives. It was just after the races had finished. The old man, who appeared to be a respectable type, was evidently in trouble of some sort, and was receiving the attentions of some bystanders. " He was arrested for drunkenness,” he continued. “ and it was then found that he had £IOO in notes on him. He is extremely fortunate to have been arrested.” “ Yes, he is one of the lucky ones,” agreed the Magistrate, in entering the conviction.
