The North Canterbury’ countryside is looking very well at present, with plenty of feed available and a good store of moisture in the sub-soil. There have, however, been no soaking rains in the last three weeks. After a wet winter and a wet spring, during which the ground consolidates a good deal, showers are necessary to keep the surface soft for the later crops.
