POLICE COURT.

Youths Remanded on Theft Charges. Peter Johnson, aged twenty-four years, pleaded guilty in the Magistrates Court this morning to the theft, at Dunsandel, of a towel valued at Is 6d, the property of Russell Wright. With Johnson appeared Albert Henw Edgeworth. of Lytton Street, aged twenty-one years, charged with stealin S, between October 10 and October 31 £5 in money from the Dunsandel Tennis Club. Serior-Sergeant Fox said that both the accused had been arrested at Dunsandel yesterday for the thefts. Other articles had been stolen about the same time, and further inquiries were needed. The accused were remanded until November Six Months’ Gaol. Daniel Patrick Casey, aged fortyseven years, a labourer, of no fixed abode, was sentenced to six months’ gaol for the theft, on October 10, of goods and money of a total value of £2 10s 6d. the property of Albert Edgeworth. It was stated by Chief-Detective Dunlop that the accused had stolen the articles from the New Rail wav Hotel, where Edgeworth was staying. The accused had had twenty-eight previous convictions, sixteen of them for theft. Remanded. Senioi-Sergeant Fox intimated that further charges of a small nature were pending in the case of George Hill, charged with stealing, on October 31. tools to a value of £3 10s, the property of William Frederick Neither'. The accused was remanded until November Theft Charges. Six months* gaol was imposed on Edward Edwin M’Laren, who pleaded guilty to charges of stealing, on or ■about October 9. goods valued at £lO. the property of John Beattie Beggs; and with stealing, on October 11. a quantity of east iron, valued, at 15s, the prooertv of Robert Robertson. He received six months’ imprisonment on the first charge, and seven days on the second. It was stated by the police that the accused, who had just been released from Paparua. had stolen the cast-iron and then sold it as scrap metal to a city firm, receiving £2 3s. Third Offender. Charles William M’Donald. aged fortysix. w£fs sentenced to fourteen days’ Imprisonment for his third conviction for drunkenness within six months.
