Whist Drive at Seamen’s Institute. A whist drive, arranged by Mesdames Wood and Rowse. was held at the Seamen's Institute, Lyttelton, for the entertainment of visiting seamen. Mrs Wood presented the prizes. School Holiday. The Lyttelton primary schools will observe Thursday as a holiday to enable a number of the pupils to attend the North Canterbury primary schools’ sports meeting at Lancaster Park. Cricket Match. Playing at Officers’ Point on Saturday afternoon, Lyttelton Miniature Rifles defeated Westport Coal Company by an innings and 31 runs. In their first innings Westport Coal Company made 51 runs (Abbott 23, Tullett 11). Lyttelton made 144 runs for six wickets, declared (M’Cormick 48, Arneson 22, Garner 22, Loader 21). The visitors made 61 for their second innings (Monroe 11). The best bowlers for Lyttelton were Williams, seven for 18 and three for 21, Whitford one for 5 and three for none, and Arneson three for 20.
