German Newspaper’s Version of History. Like many newspapers in other countries, the Nazi “ Yoelkischer Beobachj ter ” is running a daily commentary on | the war under the heading of “ Twenty i Years Ago.” . Here are two extracts from a recent j issue: | France was then asked what her attii tude would be in the case of a RussoGerman war. Her reply that Franc - ' would act as her own interests dictated was given under the influence of the firm assurance of military aid from ; England. j England, too, had mobilised her navy and her army. The negotiations entered into by Germany regarding the question of Belgian neutrality were conducted in such a way by the English statesmen as to prepare the diplomatic ground for England’s entrv into the war. These samples are typical of the history textbooks now used in German schools, writes the Diarist of the “ Evening Standard,” under the heading of “ Whitewashing History.” .
