ASHBURTON NEWS.
Men on Unemployment Register. (Special to the " Star.”) ASHBURTON, November 5. There are at present 458 men on the Ashburton unemployment register. The allocations for this week are as follows: Class A, forty-two men, 2 days; class B, 264 men. 2* and 3 days; class C, 152 men, 4 days. Rural Mail Contracts. The remaining rural mail service contracts in Ashburton have been let as follow:—Hinds-Mayfield, Mr S. J. Samuels (Ashburton); Ashburton-Mount Somers, Mr A. A. Oliver (Ashburton). Show Trophy Allocated. The Taylor Memorial Shield presented to the owners of the champion draught mare at the Ashburton A. and P. Association’s Show has been awarded to Mr R. A. Oakley, of Rakaia. Personal. Mr D. Varcoe, who has been advised of his transfer to the Foxton Post Office, was met by members of the Presbyterian senior Bible class yesterday and presented with a bound volume in recognition of his work for i the class.
