The work of cultivating the ground purchased for a park in Somerfield could be started immediately after the school holidays, the Reserves Committee reported to the City Council last evening. The report stated that, although the area of over four acres had just been purchased, it was pointed ! out that there was no money provided 1 on the estimates tor carrying out any j constructional work. It was also too j late in the season to have the ground : prepared and sown down before the summer months. As a means, how- , ever, of providing suitable work under ! the No. 5 scheme, the work of cultivating the ground and preparing it in readiness for sowing in the early autumn could be commenced immediately after the school holidays. *
