| Wooden culverts are contrary to the j city by-laws, but their use is still per--1 sisted in, as a result of which the Works Committee reported to the City Council last evening that in future ail wooden culverts which remained over side channels after a notice had been served would be removed by the council’s employees. At the meeting of the City Council last evening Councillor T. Andrews asked what action had been taken regarding making a grant towards the expenses of the visit of the Woolston j Band to Melbourne. Councillor J. K. | Archer, chairman of the Finance Com- ] mittee, said that the committee had dei cided to defer the matter until the j accounts in connection with the band's trip had been completed.
