Dunedin Man Carried a Bag. (Special to the ’’ Star.”) DUNEDIN, This Day. In the police court Henry Cecil Beckingsale, 31 years of age, a' city corporation electrical inspector, admitted that in the last two years he had stolen 224 booVs valued at £6l. from various shops He ascribed his conduct to fondness for books and being unable to resist the temptation of taking them. The police stated that the accused would order periodicals from different shops and call for them with a brief bag. While in the shops he would select the books he intended to steal, move them to the back of cases and then slip them into the bag. All the books were of good quality and high standard. When the accused’s home was searched, 550 new books were found in his possession. Counsel said ' that the accused had a substantial library of his own. Beckingsale was remanded till the afternoon.
