Does Well in Contest at Ballarat. THIRD ON AGGREGATE POINTS. United Press Assn. —By Electric Telegraph —Copyright. MELBOURNE, November 4. An audience of 10.000 was present at the Ballarat Oval on Saturdav night for the conclusion of the South’ Street band championsip, at which new standards of brilliant playing were established. With its points in the A grade, the Melbourne Fire Brigade band secured possession of the Besson Shield. The awards in the A grade selection tests were:
Quickstep. Fire Brigade 184 Woolston and Malvern Tramways equal ISO Aggregate. Fire Brigade 455 Hawthorn 454 Woolston 453 Malvern Tramways 448 The judge. Mr Stephen Yorke, England, said that the standard of play equalled the best of England. The task of judging was very exacting.
“Severn “Epic Suite” Sy mphony” Tl. Hawthorn .... 137 141 278 Woolston .... 144 129 273 Brunswick 136 136 272 Fire Brigade, 271, was fourth.
