Gatherings Held in Town and Country. PARTY AT NEW BRIGHTON. The president of the Women’s Auxiliary of the New Brighton subbranch of the R.S.A., Mrs W. Lachlan, entertained members of the association to a social evening recently at her residence on the Esplanade. Community singing led by Mr R. Potter with Mr W. Fender at the piano and games and competitions were enjoyed. The winners of the competitions were Mesdames E. Martin, R. Potter and E. A. Ransley, Messrs R. Potter, E. Phillpot and E. Martin. Those present included:—Mr and Mrs G. Marsh, Mr and Mrs G. Fitzgerald, Mr and Mrs E. A. Ransley, Mr and Mrs F. Rouse, Mr and Mrs J. Williams, Mr and Mrs G. Cattermole, Mr and Mrs E. Martin, Mr and Mrs R. Potter, Mesdames W. Lauchlan, A. Nesbitt, W. Tves, J. Hollander, Spencer, Mahoney F. Power and W. Fisher; Misses L. Laughlan, N. Tves and N. Power; Messrs J. Jves, W. Feaver and E. Phillpot. Party for Recent Bride. Miss Gladys Galt, whose marriage took place recently, was the guest of honour at a kitchen evening held at the home of Miss Anderson, Colombo Street. Table tennis and competitions were enjoyed. Among the guests were: Mr and Mrs Mr and Mrs Herriot, Hr and Mrs VV illiams, Mr and Mrs George Southam, Mr and Mrs Earle Wilson, Misses Galt, de ,f anne tt, Aldersley, Clarke and BuUerfletd, Messrs Tom and Jack Southam, Howard Galt, R. Robert and L. Leslie. Pa rewell Party. Misses D. Gillespie and D. Waller recently arranged an evening party to bid farewell to Miss D. Mann, formerlv of Timaru, before her return to New York. The guests included: Mrs Gillespie, Mrs Gilmore, Misses M'Donald and Cracroft Wilson, Messrs Gilmore Macdonald and Wallace. Buclire and Dance at Shirley. The final euchre party and dance for the season was held in the Shirley schoolroom on Saturday evening. The dance room was decorated with gailycoloured lights and Chinese lanterns. A large number of people danced to music supplied by Maurice Adcock’s Shirley Orchestra. Mr S. H. Clothier was M.C. During the year the committee has 5,!\ en series of aggregate prizes, and on Saturday the winners were Mrs Mills and Mr Wright. Mrs Mills also won tile women’s prize for the evening, .Mrs Johnston being second. Mr Harris " a . s in the men’s section, ana .Mi .M Leish was second. The luckv won b >' Mr W. Sword * I,SS Hatch well. Two Monte Carlo r wm were held ’ Mr Evans and Miss ■T Wilson and Mr N. Cook and Miss Haigh being the winners. When pre--5i? e prizes Mr s. j. Geary, chairn.an of the committee, thanked all those W’ho had contributed to the success of the several dances held. Special thanks were rtue to the ladies’ committee, under Mrs M Kinley, for the efficient manner in which they carried out the supper arrangements. The school funds have been credited with £35, and in addition £7 10s was raised for the sports fund of the Intermediate School. Pancy Dress Party. The members of St Giles's Church held a children’s fancy dress party recently in the Memorial Hall. Papanui. The gathering was organised by Mesdames M’Causland and Quirke and Miss Constance Church, assisted by Mrs C. Smith, the Women's Guild and Messrs F. Barnard, R. Borgfeldt, R. M’Donald and Butcher.
