“THE DUBARRY.”
J. C. Williamson Company at Theatre Royal.
Wednesday night next will conclude the Christchurch season of “ The Dubarry,” which has achieved such an outstanding success in all parts of Australia and in other Xew Zealand towns. On Thursday, November 8, Sylvia Welling and the J. C. Williamson, Ltd., Company will present, in the Theatre Royal, a brilliant representation of the great comic opera “Waltzes From Vienna.” The spectacular nature of this production concerns the two Johann Strausses, father and son. It tells of the father’s indifference to his son’s gifts, and a fine climax is reached when the elder man recognises in the younger’s “ Blue Danube ” a -work of genius. Sylvia W r elling created a sensation in Auckland in the role of Countess Olga Barankaja, and critics then went so far as to state that she is even greater as a singer and an actress in “ W’altzes From Vienna ” than she is in “ The Dubarry,” which is high praise indeed.
