“SCARLET EMPRESS.”

Marlene Dietrich Picture for Regent. “One More River ” will be shown finally to-night at the Regent Theatre. One of the most impressive and exciting pictures to be screened here for some time is the latest Marlene Dietrich offering. “ The Scarlet Empress.” which comes to the Regent Theatre to-morrow. This glitteringly spectacular dFama brings back the exotic German star in a great part as the quiet country girl who was destined to become one of the most infamous queens of history. It is also a drama of a girl’s disillusionment and her embittered fight for power. “ The Scarlet Empress ” is described as a fitting drama for the reigning beauty of the screen, and heading the cast of thousands who support her are John Lodge, Sam Jaffc and Louise Dresser. Priceless in its historical sentimental value, a hand-made rosepoint lace dress that was worn by the Romanolf Czarina Alexandra, last Empress of Russia, lends authenticity to Marlene Dietrich’s portrayal of Catherine 11. Made with the rarest and most expensive material, the dress was worn by the Czarina at an Imperial function given by President Raymond Poincaire of France to the ruling heads of Europe in 1914. It was to have been the last time the Czarina wore the gowrn. The fantastic figures seen in the Imperial palace sets of “ The Scarlet Empress ” express the cruelty of the life of the time and offer a bizarre background for the glamorous tale unfolded in the picture. An additional attraction at the Regent to-morrow will be the appearance on the stage of M. Senia Chostiakoff and his Cossack Choir in costume singing Russia’s famous songs. Box plans at the D.I.C.
