TROTTING NOTES.

ill ® m s a in m m s m m $ a is s @ & r'THE betting system at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s I meeting will be on the single pool ! principle, and two dividends. MOAN A TAMA. The three-year-old gelding, Moana Tama, made his second visit to Addington yesterday morning and was given serviceable work over a mile and a half. He. is in fine condition, and he paced with great freedom, and returned to his home as happy as a skylark. Moana Tama has made as much improvement as any of his age. and he has the ability to go a mile and a half well enough to take him into a place next week. QUITE WELL. Indianapolis was indulged in jogging essays at Addington this morning, and he moved as if he had never had anything wrong with him. His split hoof if receiving constant attention, and it is responding remarkably well to treatment. BEHAVED WELL. Donalda’s display at the barrier at Addington yesterday was gratifying to his connections, for when lined up with several horses he left the mark smoothly at each attempt. He gives every indication of settling down, and later in the morning he was taken on to the big course and driven a mile and a half in 3min 27 2-osec. He paced resolutely, and came home his last mile in 2min 12see, and his concluding halfmile in lmin 3sec in pleasing style. It would seem that Donalda is all his connections estimate him to be, and if he leaves the mark in the New Zealand | Derby Stakes he may take a prominent part in the race.

W. IT. Roche arrived at Addington this morning from Westport with the pacing mare Fernbrook Lass, who is in excellent condition for her contests next week. DOING WELT.. The pacing gelding Morning Sun is in splendid condition for approaching meetings. He is now trained at Addington by S. Brown, who is apt to spring an early surprise with the aged son of Sungod. RQLLO IS WELL. The New Zealand Trotting Cup candidate, Rollo, was a subject of much favourable comment when he appeared at Addington yesterday morning. The aged gelding is as bright as ever he has been, and his recent form and track deeds point to his having a chance of participating in the prize money at the carnival. Rollo was associated with Trampfast and three lesser lights yesterday, but after going a mile and three furlongs, Rollo and Trampfast went on to cover the next five furlongs. Rollo has never paced better, and the time recorded is not a true indication of his ability, for he was driven on the outside of the course most of the wav, and then allowed to ease up considerably over the last hundred yards. He went his first mile in 2min 17 2-ssec, and the full journey in 4min 3dsec. He will strip in fine order for next week’s racing. * * * * The New Zealand Derby Stakes candidate Graham Direct was sent a quiet mile at Addington this morning, the time registered being 2min 24sec. This three-year-old has more speed than any of his opponents for next week's classic, but his erratic behaviour at the barrier will probably cost him his chance of wearing the blue riband. RETURNING TO FORM. The pacing mare Symmetry is gradually reaching form, and the manner in which she strode over two miles this morning in 4min 46 2-ssec showed that she has benefited by the good holiday she has enjoyed since he last raced. This morning she was never allowed to do her best while recording 2min 24 2-ssec for the first mile and the full journey in 4min 46 2-ssec. TRACK WORK. A cold southerly wind was in evidence at Addington this morning, but the course was in good order. It was an off day, but to-morrow should provide final work-outs of an interesting character.

The star item of this morning’s series was provided by Silver de Oro, who was allowed to bowl along over one mile and a half in 3min 20 2-ssec. She paced the first two furlongs in 35sec, the half-mile in lmin 10 3-ssec, six furlongs in lmin 43sec, the mile iii 2min 16 1-osec, and the mile and a quarter : n 2min 4S 2-ssec. This mare is in perfect order for her Cup engagement. On Tuesday morning last she was credited with pacing a mile and a half in faster time than had hitherto been recorded at headquarters. Since then she has come into favour for the big race, and it can be said that her trainer is confident that she will go a great race, and he makes no secret of the fact that he considers Silver de Oro a hard horse to beat.

MUCH IMPROVED. Peter Locanda’s candidature for the Empire Handicap at Addington on Tuesday seems to be among the items uppermost in the public mind. There is certainly plenty of evidence to support the belief that he is a much improved horse, and his manners and courage are all that can be desired. He has revealed rare brilliance at the finish of his races on several occasions, and more than once a turn -of fortune’s wheel would have made him a winner. Among his many impressive performances is the Lincoln Handicap, which l.e won at Addington at the last August meeting. In that race he came from last to first in the concluding three furlongs. Then again it has to be remembered that last season he took a two mile record of 4min 20 1-osec. Peter Locanda's mission on Tuesday is over a mile and a quarter. It is a 2min 47sec class, and he is on 12vds behind. Such a quick horse out of the barrier should be in demand on the day. TROTTING FIXTURES. November 6. 8, 9—N.Z.M.T.C.
