Girls’ High Old Girls, at Malvern Park No. 5. Sumner Ladies' Club. A meeting or those interested in the formation of a ladies’ cricket club in siimer was held in the Council Chambers last night. Mr G. F. Allen presided over a good attendance. Miss T. Longuet reported that sufficient interest and support were beingshown for a club to be formed. Some preliminary practices had been held, and the results were very encouraging. A warm welcome was extended to Miss K. Selby, wlio over twenty years ago was captain of a Sumner ladies’ cricket team. The meeting decided to form a club, to be known as the Sumner Ladies’ Cricket Club. The following officers were elected:—Patron, the Mayoress of Sumner, Mrs W. H. Nicholson; president, Miss K. Selby; vice-presidents, Mesdames E. Pye, R. Beveridge, T. Umlrill, Miss A. Pender, and Messrs W. E. Merritt, T. D. Wall, H. A. Ford, J. H. Thomas and G. F*. Allen; club coaches. Messrs D. Bowman, A. Saunders, J. Merritt and Wigley; secretary and treasurer. Miss T. Longuet: captain, Miss F. Peachey; vice-captain. Miss J. Darling: selection committee, the captain and two of the club coaches to be elected by the committee; committee, captain, vice-captain, secretary, Mrs j. Merritt and Miss M. Oreagh; custodian, Mrs j. Merritt. The annual subscription was fixed at 4f,. and it was decided to ask the permission of the Sumner Borough Council for the use of St Leonard’s Square on alternate Saturdays. Tt was also decided to affiliate with the Christchurch Ladies’ Cricket Association. An invitation was received from the New Brighton Ladies’ Cricket. Club to play a friendly game at New Brighton on Saturday. The invitation was accepted, and arrangements made for a team to make the visit.
