TOO MANY ICE CREAMS

Boys Who Stole Money Gave Themselves Away. Two boys who stole fourteen shillings in money gave themselves away by having too many ice creams, according to the story told in the Children’s Court this morning when they were charged jointly with the theft. The boys were twelve and eleven years of age. The ringleader was placed under the supervision of the Child Welfare Officer for twelve months and the other was admonished and discharged. Detective M'Clung said that on September 14 the boys were passing a cafe when they saw some biscuits ir? the window and tried to secure a few. While doing so they saw money in a saucer and took some each, the amount stolen being 14s. They hid the money. in a tin in the street and periodically visited their store for supplies of cash. They bought more ice creams than usual and that, combined with a little talk at school, raised suspicions. A constable then investigated and located the boys, who admitted the offence. To Mr H. A. Young, S.M., who was on the Bench with Mrs T. Green, J.P., the boys promised to behave themselves in future. The mother of one of the boys and the guardian of the other were ordered to make restitution of the money stolen.
