PETITION AGAINST STREET COLLECTIONS.

The Anti-Charity League will present their petition of protest against

“ street collections ” to the City Council in time for consideration at the next sitting. The petitioners, who are the principals* of businesses, including approximately 100 struggling women shopkeepers. have complained most bitterlv to this League regarding the loss of trade they suffer each week a street collection is conducted. Considering the fact that thousands of workers are employed by the business people, and that loss of turnover compels the employers to dispense with the services of their staff, it will be interesting to know the attitude the Labour members of the City Council will adopt when the petition is placed before them.

The League’s organiser. Mr B. Ahlfeld. has given much time and energy in organising this petition, also our petition now before Parliament cn behalf of the unemployed. 7652
