Wealth of Flowers.

Colourful Procession Held in Melbourne.

United Press Assn. —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. MELBOURNE, October 26. ~T)ESPITE the postponement of the floral pageant through bad weather, the event, when held to-day, was the most spectacular and colourful procession ever seen in the streets of Melbourne. A crowd of a hundred thousand people lined the footpaths, roofs and windows, traffic being suspended. The Grenadier Guards and fifteen other bands took part. All the floats depicted incidents in the last hundred years’ history. The wealth of flowers displayed justified Melbourne’s claim of being a garden city.

Life of Johnson. TTE sometimes could not bear being teazed with questions. I was once present when a gentleman asked so many as, “What did you do, Sir?” “What did you say. Sir?” that he at last grew enraged, and said, “ I will not be put to the 4 question.* Don’t you consider. Sir, that these are not the manners of a gentleman? I will not be baited with 4 what.’ and ‘why’: what is this? what is that? why is a cow’s tail long why is a fox’s tail bushy ?”
