OMETHING TO MAKE.

Humpty the Tumbler. This jolly Humpty Dumpty enjoys his great fall. To make him, you need a small piece of cardboard, six fairly large glass beads, needle, cotton, colours, ruler, scissors, pencil and paste, a piece of wood at least two inches wide and as long as you like, some small nails, and a spent match. Paste the picture of Humpty (Fig. 1) on to the cardboard. When dry, cut it out carefully, colour it, and pierce holes at dots A and B. Glue the match stalk at the back, right across from hand to hand, Humpty has bead legs, which must

be fairly heavy, but not more than half-inch long. Thread three beads on to cotton, bring cotton back through two top beads, then through hole A in Humpty’s body: tie cotton ends firmly. Make the other leg in the same way, tying it at hole B. Straight down the piece of wood draw two lines exactly li inches apart. Beginning at the top, put a mark every li inches down one line. On the opposite line put the first mark i-inch from the top, then mark off every li inch as before.

In each mark hammer a nail, leaving most of it sticking out. Paint the wood to look like a wall.

Now stand the wood against a wall, put Humpty in the position shown in Fig. 3, and he will tumble gaily down from nail to nail.
