FARMER DROWNED.

Attempt to Rescue Horse From River Bed. Per Press Association. BLENHEIM. October 2. Continuous rain has been falling since Sunday and though there is no sign of Hoods the rivers are higher than at any time for three years. This morning Mr Joseph Glover, a well-known Lower Wairau settler, ventured into the river-bed to rescue a horse which was marooned by water. He was riding it back to the bank when it stumbled into a deep hole. Mr Glover was thrown into the water and drowned, being encumbered by gumboots and heavy clothing. The body was recovered half an hour later. Mr Glover, who was 47 years of age, was a married man with three children.
