TEN KILLED.
Many Casualties in Bad Railway Smash. EXPRESS MEETS DISASTER. British Official Wireless. (Reiceived October 1, noon.) RUGBY', September 29. A railway disaster resulting in the death of ten persons and injuries necessitating the detention in hospital of twenty-one others, occurred on . the London-Midland-Scottish line last night, when at 9.10 p.m. the London to Blackpool express passenger train ran into the rear of a local passenger train at a junction near Warrington. The local train, which at this point ! leaves the main line, had not fully ! cleared the points when the express ! overtook it. j Most of the casualties occurred in the ! first two coaches of the express, which : were telescoped. Four other coaches I were derailed and the two rear coaches | of the local train, which were unoccui pied, were smashed. Rescue work was undertaken by ! breakdown gangs, who were promptly on the scene, assisted by volunteers, including passengers who escaped injury. Urgent messages for doctors and nurses met with a speedy response.
