Mr J. Sead Go wing (Auckland) is a guest at Warner’s Hotel. The Rev G. L. Harold has been appointed honorary secretary of the Diocesan Missionary Council. Messrs Bruce Dwyer and A. Buchanan (Auckland) are guests at the Royal Hotel. Canon Gahvev will take charge of St Matthew’s, Auckland, during the vacancy caused by the death of Canon Grant-Cowen. Mr W. T. Lester, of Lyttelton, has been appointed to be a member of the Licensing Committee for the district of Lyttelton. Messrs R. X. Roberts (Los Angeles), K. E. Thompson, C. E. R. Webber, E. C. Turner, A. Gray, C. Conaghan (Wellington) and W. E. Reynolds (Dunedin’ are at the New City Hotel. Canon S. Parr and Deaconess 11. Park have been appointed as examiners in religious knowledge for the Anglican Church Primary Day Schools for the current year. Dr R. I. Ritchie, a member of the staff of the Otago Medical School, left Christchurch yesterday for Ilanmer Springs. lie is accompanied by Mrs Ritchie. Messrs W. J. Kennington, C. D. Mat thews, W. S. Morrin, A. G. Roberts and IT. J Thompson have been elected the first members of the newlv-formed Flaxbourne Rabbit Board, in Marlborough. Mr D. S. Weir has been appointed an inspector to the board. The Governor of New South Wales (Sir Philip Game) and Lady Game arrived in Wellington by the Remuera yesterday morning, and were the guests of Lord and Lady Bledisloe. They left last night for Auckland to connect with the Aorangi. The Bishop-designate of Nelson, Canon W. G. Hilliard, hopes to enter into residence at Bishopdale about the middle of October. His consecration will take place in Nelson on October 28. Archbishop Mowll will be the preacher. Dr M. S. Wells, a brother of Dr J. R. Wells, is at present on a visit to Ashburton. Dr Wells, who has returned from a three years’ trip abroad, where he held various hospital appointments, will shortly take up an appointment as surgical registrar at the Hamilton Hospital. Sir Arnold Theiler, accompanied by Lady Theiler, arrived at Auckland by the Aorangi yesterday. Sir Arnold is a noted South African veterinarian and has been attending a congress in New York. He will tour New Zealand and then return to Africa to continue his research work. At a largely attended social gathering on Friday Dr J. Lewis Reed, medical superintendent of the Waipukurau Hospital for forty-one years, was farewelled by the combined staffs of the Waipukurau Hospital, the Rathbone Maternity Hospital, the Pukeora Sanatorium and members of the Waipawa Hospital Board. He was presented with a series of framed photographs and a substantial monetary tribute. The chairman (Mr W. 11. Rathbone) presided. Dr Reed recently resigned, Dr W. B. Fisher succeeding him.
