Is There a Referee?

Dear Sir, —Three years ago. I had mv house painted by a well-established firm. To-day the paint has simply powdered off in many places, both outside, exposed to the weather, and in sheltered positions. Dusting some doors always brings off a layer of crumbling paint. In places the paint has curled completely off. I did not have the work done at a cut price, and it was impossible, until long after it had been paid for, to detect this grossly bad workmanship. I suppose I have no claim for the return of part of my money, but I should like to know if there is any organisation of employers, like the Chamber of Commerce, or the Manufacturers’ Association, to which I could submit my complaint for redress. Are the employers as a whole careless or jealous for their reputations, or is it a free-for-all with them regardless of qualitv?—l am, etc., HOUSEHOLDER.
