MARSHLAND SPORTS CLUB.
The fifth annual smoke conceit of the Marshland Sports Club eras held on Saturday night. Mr P. Blades presided. The club, which has under its jurisdiction sections devoted to football, cricket, tennis, basket-ball and athletics, has as one of its aims the provision of a playground for the district, towards the purchase of which £BS. obtained mainly through sports gatherings, is held in the bank. The club has now a membership of over 100. The following toasts were honoured: “The King*’ ("proposed by the president), “Marshland Sports Club” (proposed by the president and responded to by Messrs W. Waugh, J. Blackburn and T >. Hill). “Marshland Football Club” (Mr H. Hibbard—Messrs R. Pengelly, R. Kingston and R. R. Masters), “ Parliament ” (Mr J. G. Armstrong), “Agricultural Interests ” (Mr C. Morgan Williams—Mr D. Chisnall). “Kindred Societies*’ (Mr J. R. Walter—Mr C. X. Hamilton). “The Ladies,” the “Press” and “Entertainers.”
