SELWYN PLANTATIONS.
Good Progress Made in Nursery Work. The Selwvn Plantation Board met this morning, Mr G. S. Ellis presiding. The superintendent (Mr R. G. Robinson) reported that although early spring conditions did not favour general nursery work, excellent headway had been made during the past fortnight and 625,750 yearlings had been transplanted. The nursery was now well stocked with 774,950 trees; about 139,700 two and three-year-olds were out in lines, and 9500 in trays. An effort was being made to propagate for 1 935 planting 50.000 to 100,000 cupressus macrocarpa, and as virgin land had been used in transplantation this season, a successful year was anticipated. Some 242,800 two and three-year trees were out over 600 Without affecting the board's scheme, it. had been possible to supply 53.135 trees from the Darfield nursery to Canterbury local bodies. Two and three-year-olds disposed of in the same way during the year totalled 295.935. About 25S cords of wattle, gum and pine were cut and stacked.
